WELCOME TO THE DUHOK WORLD SCHOOL
On behalf of all the staff from DWS, it is my great pleasure to welcome you back to our school community.
We are incredibly excited to start our new school year!
Please take the time to introduce yourself to our new administrators: Miss Elke, our Middle School Principal, Mr. Diego our Primary School Principal and Miss Laurna Akyol our Head of Student Support. We have many new teachers and please take the time to introduce yourself to your child’s teacher.
There have been many improvements here at DWS over the summer. Some improvements over the summer include a new library, newly designed PYP and MYP learning spaces, increased resources in all areas of the school, and improvements to the look of the school. I hope you agree that the school looks wonderful!
We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our students need support from both parents and teachers, a strong partnership with you will make a greater difference in your child´s overall development. As partners we share the responsibility for the children´s success and we want you to know that we are prepared and ready to fulfill our mission: to develop students’ international-mindedness, motivation, and to being life-long learners who make a difference to our world. I invite you to join our Parents Teacher Association. This group will meet monthly and will become an important link between home and school. You will receive more information about this group very soon.
At DWS, faculty and staff have made a commitment to our unique mission. Our mission demands more from us than academic excellence; our mission calls us to develop discipline and determination, tolerance, a passion for life-long learning, and a compassionate heart committed to service. As a school community, everyone plays an important role. Our teachers view their jobs as much more than an occupation - many define it as a vocation or a calling, and report feeling tremendous satisfaction about the work they do each day; our parents partner with teachers to ensure their child’s success; and students arrive each day ready and eager to learn.
Most schools reflect the personality and culture of the surrounding community, and DWS certainly does. Kurdistan is known for being welcoming, kind, family and community orientated, and fiercely proud of its culture.
DUHOK WORLD SCHOOL is all that and more!
I welcome you to not only read this website, but to stop into our school for a visit or give us a call, to learn more about the Duhok World School experience.
Mr. Michael Hawkins
